World Startup Factory Afterwork
Wednesday 14 March 2018

This is the third edition of Startup Europe Week, the largest multi-event of its kind for startups in Europe.

Startup Europe Week 2018 aims to inform entrepreneurs of the support and resources available at a city and regional level. For The Hague, World Startup Factory is a local SEW co-organizer. As part of Afterwork, WSF and THT collaborate and host this event with some exclusive startup insights that showcase what The Hague has to offer as a big startup hub. For this event, we invited Diederik de Stoppelaar, a successful director of multinational companies who once turned to become a startup entrepreneur, to share his know-hows and lessons learned.

About the Speaker:

Diederik de Stoppelaar's international career spans more than 35 years in various management positions. He worked at Philips Lighting for 21 years. Following responsibilities were as Chief Marketing Officer with Thorn Lighting and Regional Commercial Director with Zumtobel. For Lutron he was Vice President for Sales in EMEA and for GE Lighting he worked as Global General Manager for the Vertical Outdoor. Finally he spent 3,5 years as Secretary General of LightingEurope in Brussels and served as a member of the Executive Board of Eucolight, the association of the European lighting recycling industry. Since April 2017 Diederik divides his time between different consulting roles ranging from being a member of the Advisory Board of Global Factories, helping startups to overcome the difficult first hurdles, personal coaching and setting up a charity activity.

Three Wolves, A Monkey, and a Dung Beetle Walk into a Hackathon

Hackathons are an incredible medium for creating new ideas, new friends, and finding out about yourself. As a semi non-technical person (i.e. I don’t code, at least not yet) I’ve always looked at hackathons with a sense of awe, as an unapproachable event that I always wanted to participate in. Well, I finally got my chance and it was an absolute blast!

What was the hackathon all about?

The co-working space as a platform for a token economy

Tokens can become a reward for those that contribute to the community. A community member can earn or sell within the ecosystem when interacting with the community ecosystem (as in: the wider network) or within the co-working space.
