Software Remediation and Consultancy Firm

It’s summer, the quietest time for The Hague Tech as members are on holiday. But it’s also the right time for entrepreneurs to have a look at new working spaces. We have been quite busy, welcoming new members. Time for a chat with Harm and Jeroen from Boncode, an IT company specialised in source code analysis for the purpose of measuring, visualizing and optimizing the technical quality of software.

What brought you to The Hague Tech?

We were looking for a technical environment where we would have our own office. Besides, we want to recruit new people and believe that The Hague Tech and its technical environment will give the right vibes to potential candidates. The Hague Tech is near the railway station and therefore it’s a great location. We are very happy here!

Who is Boncode?

Boncode is a technology-based consultancy firm. We help organizations to manage their software assets by utilizing automated source code analysis tooling. This is especially valuable for companies undergoing a digital transformation. We help them to make such transformation manageable, profitable and future-proof. We do this by focusing on the maintainability and security.

For example, organizations have key applications that contain millions of lines of source code, in various languages like Java, Skala, C#, C++ and more.

We analyze the code based on the parameters of ISO25010 with a focus on Maintainability and present the fact-based findings in a dashboard. In combination with our recommendations the results make it possible for organizations to improve the quality of their software. This contributes to a better project control and ultimately: better business.

Interesting, sounds as if your business has value for the future as we will code more and more. Why should companies make use of your services?

If customers want to assure themselves that their investments in software are spend wisely, we can provide them with that insight. If clients are in need of a second opinion on their software systems, we can offer that. And if clients need advice if and how to modernize older systems, please call us.

Last month, you announced a new tool to visualise code of low code environments such as OutSystems.

Yes. Our tool measures aspects as volume, duplication and complexity. It analyses if developers hold on to the best practices of Outsystems platforms. Low code can be compared to a Lego block. We help customers to prevent the use of custom code instead of the Lego blocks that are meant to use, hereby optimizing the low code promise.

Is this why you are called Boncode?

Yes, that’s right.

What do you like the most as a member of The Hague Tech?

Jeroen: The view. I’ve worked in an office once and I just looked at a wall. And our neighbours are great, QdepQ Systems BV. What they are developing is really cool, plus they are nice and they want to share their knowledge. Harm agrees: It’s the innovation spirit here. A lot of people working on really nice things. For example, I really enjoyed the Design Sprint Challenge last week. People came in, did a workshop for a couple of days, there was great energy in the building.

Do you have a favourite book, thought or hobby to share?

Harm: Haha, it’s not very techie, but I’m a great fan of Ado Den Haag. My wife always laughs about it but she can’t change this☺

Jeroen: What I like is space travel, because when I was young there was the Apollo program. One of the books I want to recommend is ‘How Apollo went to the moon’. There are so many analogies in that book, but then from a totally different domain.

*Boncode is looking for developers with a technical background that are savvy, they have to enjoy programming and have a bit of an obsession of being passionate about coding. Interested? Contact them here. *

Three Wolves, A Monkey, and a Dung Beetle Walk into a Hackathon

Hackathons are an incredible medium for creating new ideas, new friends, and finding out about yourself. As a semi non-technical person (i.e. I don’t code, at least not yet) I’ve always looked at hackathons with a sense of awe, as an unapproachable event that I always wanted to participate in. Well, I finally got my chance and it was an absolute blast!

What was the hackathon all about?
