AI Like Lego: Building Systems That Think, by Guus Bobeldijk from AI Training Nederland.

ai like lego: building systems that think

This session is about shifting your mindset from "Using ChatGPT" to "Designing AI Systems." Most people see AI as a single, mysterious black box. We’re going to tear that box open and show you that it’s actually a collection of Lego bricks. You don’t need to be a coder to understand how these bricks click together to solve cool, real-world problems.

focuses on four "ai lego bricks"

1) The Brain (LLMs): The core engine that provides the logic, understands your questions, and generates human-like talk.

2) The Needle-in-a-Haystack Retriever (RAG): Instead of the AI guessing or "hallucinating," this brick uses Embeddings and Cosine Similarity to instantly find and feed the exact facts it needs from your data.

3) The Multi-Hop Reasoner (GraphRAG): This is the expert at finding "The Hidden Link." It uses the LLM to extract specific entities and their relationships from text—like (Artist) → [PLAYS_AT] → (Festival)—and maps them out so the AI can navigate through complex, connected information.

4) Multimodal AI: This gives your system "senses" beyond just text, allowing it to "see" images, "hear" audio, and "watch" video to understand the world.

who is this workshop for

(e.g. beginners, experienced professionals, developers, policymakers, founders, teams, etc.)

This workshop is designed for anyone, from curious beginners to experienced professionals, who wants to demystify AI by looking "under the hood". It is perfect for those with a system-building mindset who want to learn how to architect intelligent solutions by clicking together modular "Lego" blocks.

what will participants do

Briefly describe what happens in the session. Think: hands-on, discussion, demo, exercises, tools used.

Participants will explore AI architecture by treating it like a high-tech Lego set. First we will learn about the blocks individually. Then we will start experimenting and building with them in the live demo's in order to design intelligent systems that can find hidden links, process digital senses, and solve complex problems in real-time.

what will participants gain

What will people do differently in their daily work or life after attending your workshop?

Participants will stop seeing AI as a mysterious black box and start viewing it as a modular toolkit. You will walk away with a "teaser" of how to architect more powerful systems by clicking together individual blocks. This mindset shift allows you to move beyond simple chatting and start conceptualizing how RAG, GraphRAG, and multimodal components can be linked to solve real-world problems.".
